Emerging during the Oslo Accords, this term refers to Israeli roads built in the Occupied Palestinian Territories to connect West Bank settlements with each other and with pre-1967 Israeli territory.

Bypass roads divide the West Bank into isolated “cantons”, and are built to the detriment of Palestinian agricultural land and development plans. Palestinians are subjected to a variety of restrictions and prohibitions on most bypass roads.
