Israel’s imprisonment of Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza Strip without charge or trial for a period of up to six months. Administrative detention is renewable and is authorised by a military, administrative order rather than judicial decree. It is based on the Law on Emergency Powers, adopted by the Israeli Knesset in 1979.
